Universal’s Epic Universe Theme Park To Remain On Hold

Back in April of this year, Universal Orlando Resort announced that construction on its fourth theme park would be delayed. A few months have since passed, and sadly, there is nothing new to report on Epic Universe.

On Thursday, Comcast announced that it had a theme park revenue decline of 94 percent in the second quarter. That is not overly surprising due to the temporary park closures brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme park division of Universal generated $87 million in the second quarter. That is down from the $1.46 billion earned in the same time period of 2019.

Universal Studios Hollywood still has yet to reopen or receive an opening date.

It was also revealed that the construction and development of Epic Universe will remain on hold for the time being. It is not yet known when it could resume again, but that will happen when “the future becomes more certain.”

This past week, Universal made the announcement that Halloween Horror Nights would be canceled for 2020. Executives did say that they in a better financial position by being opened with reduced capacity, rather than remaining closed.
