CEO Bob Chapek Expects Masks And Social Distancing Through 2021 And To Ease By Next Year – Update On Park Capacity

During Thursday’s financial earnings call for the first quarter, Disney CEO Bob Chapek gave a big update on face coverings, social distancing, and park capacity for the Disney Parks.

Chapek said they are paying close attention to vaccination rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney is basing a lot of their decisions on positivity rate and the vaccination rate.

When it came to the subject of face coverings/masks and social distancing, Chapek expects it to continue through 2021. By 2022, though, he believes things will change.

“And that could accelerate our expectations, and give people the confidence that they need to come back to the parks. Will there be overlap until we know that we have herd immunity? Sure there will. But do we believe we’ll be in the same state of six-foot social distance and mask-wearing in ’22? Absolutely not.”

When asked about the capacity of the parks, Chapek confirmed that the Disney Parks are still operating at the last stated level.

“We are currently operating at 35 percent of that (full regular park capacity) full capacity.”

As of this time, there are still no changes to the policies in place for face coverings, social distancing, park capacity, and more. Chapek also did not say that there is going to be a definite end to all COVID safety measures by 2022, but he believes some measures may be eased.

The Walt Disney Company will continue to revisit and reassess all health and safety regulations as the situation of the world progresses.
