Scary news out of the Walt Disney World area as a 60-foot-wide sinkhole opened up on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 12, 2013, and it left a lot of vacationers without a place to go.
The sinkhole forced guests out of the Summer Bay Resort – about 10 minutes from Walt Disney World – as one three-story building collapsed and another slowly sank. Guests were calling for help before the buildings collapsed.
Guests started realizing somethings was wrong when they heard loud noises and windows cracking. An estimated 35 guests, all accounted for, were evacuated before the building collapsed.
Most of the one building was swallowed in the 15-foot-deep crater.
“He, his wife and an infant, he had to break the window so they could escape,” witness Maggie Ghamry told WFTV. “There were windows breaking everywhere.
“One woman was sitting in the tub, and the tub levitated, and that’s when she just grabbed a pair of shorts and came out with nothing.”
Other rooms have been made available at the Summer Bay Resort for the guest affected.
Glad to know everyone is alright, but this is rather freakish to think how this can happen so suddenly and out of nowhere.
