One person dead in crash near Epcot involving Disney’s Magical Express

Disney's Magical Express crashSad news out of the Walt Disney World area on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, as at least one person is dead after a crash involving a Disney’s Magical Express bus and another vehicle near Epcot.

The Florida Highway Patrol has said the other car was about to become disabled when it was hit from behind by the DME bus. It happened at Epcot Center Drive and Overpass Road just around 3:30 p.m. according to Click Orlando.

Victims that were hurt in the crash were taken to nearby Celebration Hospital. It was at the hospital that one woman, who was in her 60s, died. It is not known if she was the driver of the other vehicle.

Disney officials have now confirmed the crash.

Two people on the bus, one being a child, were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Authorities were investigating the scene on Friday afternoon.

A news helicopter from Local 6 showed that there was no visible damage to the Disney’s Magical Express bus, but the back of the other vehicle was completely smashed in.

One woman was on Twitter saying that her family was just arriving to Walt Disney World and her children were traumatized by the crash.

Epcot Center Drive was shut down in the immediate area.

There is no word at this time as to any charges being brought against Disney or Mears Transportation, who operates Disney’s Magical Express.
