In an update to the tragic story from earlier on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, both Disney and Mears have issued statements regarding the fatal accident that left a 63-year-old woman dead and two others with minor injuries.
The name of the woman has not yet been released as her family still is to be notified. Her vehicle was hit by a Disney’s Magical Express bus and she ended up being pronounced dead at nearby Celebration Hospital.
The 1996 Buick stopped in the left lane on Epcot Center Drive near Overpass Road around 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The westbound DME bus was unable to stop in time to avoid striking it. Images show that the vehicle had been mostly crushed.
