Ask Doctor Disney Week Two: Can I Still Wake Up Tinker Bell?

Ask Doctor DisneyLast week was the first ever edition of “Ask Doctor Disney” and it proved to be a rather nice success. Got some great feedback and some more awesome questions so that simply means it will continue and here are the questions for week two of Ask Doctor Disney.

If you’ve got a question that you wanted answered in “Ask Doctor Disney,” then send an e-mail to me at this link.

Janet: Are there any characters at Epcot?

There are plenty of characters at Epcot, and a lot more than many may realize.

Future World:

  • Epcot Character Spot – Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and sometimes Goofy
  • Near Leave A Legacy Walls: Goofy, Daisy, or Stitch
  • Outside Innoventions on The Land side: Chip and Dale
  • Various Disney Princes and Princesses can also be found randomly outside Innoventions on the Journey Into Imagination side and also directly on the side of Journey Into Imagination

World Showcase:

  • Mexico – Donald Duck
  • China – Mulan
  • Germany – Snow White
  • Morocco – Aladdin and Jasmine
  • France – Belle and Aurora
  • United Kingdom – Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice, and occasionally Eeyore and Piglet
  • International Gateway – Random characters can be found here from time to time including Flynn Rider, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and others

Stephen: Can you still wake Tinkerbell or is the store still closed?

Unfortunately, no, you can’t. Tinker Bell once could be awoken in a Fantasyland store called Tinker Bell’s Treasures which was closed in early 2010 and redone into a portrait location for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

For those not aware, the first guest into the Magic Kingdom store each morning would get to “wake up Tinker Bell” – which was a series of lights – and watch her fly around the room to start the day. That child would then get a certificate thanking them for waking her up.

This caused some problems though as many parents would steamroll others to get their child in there first.

Marty: Wouldn’t it have been smart for Disney to keep Anna and Elsa at Epcot as well, even after moving them to Magic Kingdom?  Don’t you think that would have kept the lines shorter?

Getting Anna and Elsa over into Magic Kingdom relieved a huge burden on the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The lines were much longer than anyone could have ever expected and it put a great strain on the Cast Members, the location itself, and even just moving from one country to the next.

Akershus is still one of the most popular restaurants in all of Walt Disney World and often has a line outside. The same can be said for Maelstrom which usually has a line outside during peak times and also during slow times. Adding in Anna and Elsa’s immense line made it almost impossible to move around the pavilion.

Honestly, keeping Anna and Elsa at Epcot after moving them to Magic Kingdom would not have helped the line length much. I truly believe that it simply would mean having queue lines of 150-180 minutes at two parks simultaneously.

LeeAnne: Where can I find “latte art” featuring Disney characters in WDW?

Unfortunately, this is not something that is readily available or common. Perhaps it will become a signature thing at Walt Disney World once all of the Starbucks locations continue to open. For now, I do personally know or have been told of the occasional latte art at a restaurant or breakfast location here and there, but nowhere that specifically does it.

Hopefully, this will be something that becomes an integral part of the coffee shops in Walt Disney World as I know a number of people are looking for it.

  1. In regards to Latte art, that stuff is HARD! as a former Barista, it takes time, patience and a LOT of practice. plus it will not work well with all types of milk. I found for making the best art Whole milk is the ticket, not a lot of call for that though. I was a Barista for 2 1/2 years and all I could make was a heart, and maybe a smiley face.
