Disney Developing Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’ Film With Familiar Director

Disney has had a lot of success with their live-action films as of late, and many more are on the way, but now there is one more. A live-action version of Peter Pan is on the way, and Disney already has a director and writer in place to make it.

Toby Halbrooks will be writing the film with David Lowery who is also set to direct. Lowery just recently worked with Disney as director of the remake of Pete’s Dragon which is due out in theaters later this year.

Holbrooks and Lowery also wrote the script together for the Pete’s Dragon remake.

As of now, the live-action Peter Pan project is in the very early stages of development so there isn’t a lot known about it. There have been other live-action versions of it in the past such as Steven Spielberg’s Hook in 1991, P.J. Hogan’s Peter Pan in 2003, and Joe Wright’s Pan last year.

It’s believed that this new version will be based on J.M. Barrie’s “Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.”

Other Disney live-action films in the works are Jungle Book which opens this Friday and then DumboBeauty and the Beast, and numerous others.

  1. The Disney cartoon is obviously a classic. But, to me, it has not translated well to live action. Maybe they need J.J. Abrams to direct it!
