It is no surprise that Disney Cruise Line is going to be expanding its fleet of ships by three in the coming years, but they may look at getting bigger elsewhere too. DCL is now looking at developing some land in the Bahamas which could signal a second private island similar to Castaway Cay.
According to Tribune 242, Disney Cruise Line is looking at a location known as Lighthouse Point, Eleuthera, which could be turned into another private port. With its fleet of ships soon expanding to seven total, there will need to be more time for more land for more ships.
The report states that Kim Prunty, Vice President of Communications for DCL has confirmed that Disney is indeed looking at the new land in the Bahamas. It is a 700-acre property that is for sale by Bahamas Realty.
A statement from Prunty revealed:
“…[Disney Cruise Line did not have] anything to share about a specific location’ at this time, any project pursued by the company in the future would involve a ‘partnership with the community’ and build on its commitment to ;sustainability, protecting the environment, creating jobs and economic opportunity, and celebrating the culture and stories of the area.'”
It seems that residents of Eleuthera have been campaigning to “Save Lighthouse Point” as they would like it to be used differently and to preserve their heritage.
Hopefully, more will be known about Disney Cruise Line’s plans soon and if a second private island really is in the works.
