After seven seasons on the air, ABC has decided to do away with the daytime food-oriented talk show as they have cancelled The Chew. With the show disappearing, Good Morning America is being expanded and will receive a third hour at 1 p.m. Eastern.
It isn’t as if The Chew wasn’t successful as it had 1,454 episodes over the last seven seasons and had a number of Emmy nominations to go along with two Emmy wins. The Chew will stop production at the end of its current season with new episodes in June.
The series will air as planned until September of this year. That is when the third hour of GMA is expected to begin.
“Over the past six years Good Morning America has solidified its place as America’s No. 1 morning show,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney|ABC Television. “We believe there is great opportunity for viewers and advertisers in expanding to a third hour.”
Disney fans are going to be rather upset about this as the cast of The Chew often went to Epcot for the International Food & Wine Festival each fall. The cancellation of the daytime talk show will likely come a little too early for them to head back and greet fans once again, but they will be missed.
