With the brand new TRON attraction being built at Magic Kingdom, it had previously been announced that there would be some temporary attraction closures. We already know the dates for Tomorrowland Speedway, and now, we are aware of the closure date for the Walt Disney World Railroad.
It has now been confirmed that the Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily cease operation as of December 3, 2018. This is all due to the construction happening with the TRON attraction which is being built between Storybook Circus and Tomorrowland.
During the closure, there will be one of the trains parked at the Main Street U.S.A. station for guests to check out and with which to take photos.
As with the Tomorrowland Speedway, we don’t yet have an opening date set for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Yes, the Speedway is expected to open sometime in the summer of 2019, but as for the railroad, all we know is that the closure will last a good while.
Please note that dates are subject to change and can without any notice. These dates are officially listed on Walt Disney World’s refurbishment schedule, but that does not mean they can’t possibly change.

I don’t understand WHY they wouldn’t wait until AFTER the New Year, especially when so many other things are not up and running.
There really isn’t that much closed right now.
