A huge announcement was made on Tuesday evening as the Shanghai Disney Resort announced that they would have an expansion coming that would be themed after Zootopia.
Shanghai Disneyland only opened back in June of 2016, and this is already the second big expansion revealed for it. Upon its completion, the Zootopia-themed land will be the eighth land in the park and the first in any Disney Park that is modeled after the animated hit.
Rumors have flown around about one coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but nothing has yet become of that speculation.
“We are thrilled to announce that Shanghai Disneyland will be home to the world’s first Zootopia-themed land,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products for The Walt Disney Company. “The rapid rate of expansion at Shanghai Disney Resort demonstrates our confidence and commitment to the company’s future development in China.”
Along with Zootopia merchandise, entertainment, and themed food, the new land will have a major attraction that is going to use the latest technology. On this attraction, guests will experience the magic of Disney as the characters of Zootopia come to life before their very eyes.
There is no set opening date for the Zootopia land, but it ground is expected to break later in 2019.
