It was not a good day for John and progress in Magic Kingdom. The audio-animatronic in the first scene of the Carousel of Progress lost a hand today and it fell right onto the floor which caused a shutdown of the attraction for a while.
The Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland has had some issues for a while now as the music has not been playing in many scenes. Characters have been singing the iconic theme song a capella, and there have also been a number of sound effects not working as well.
Today, things came to a screeching halt as the audio-animatronic John had his hand fall off and onto the floor in the first scene. After the show was over, the attraction was closed off and shut down for a little over half an hour so things could be put back to normal.
It has been rumored that the Carousel of Progress will get a massive overhaul and tune-up for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021. There has been no official word on when it will close or even if it will end up happening, but it certainly needs it.
