It is the 70th anniversary of Walt Disney’s animated classic Cinderella and many celebrations have already taken place, but there is much more coming. Later this year, Cinderella Castle will be getting a “royal makeover” which is going to be grand, exciting, and golden.
Disney released a statement regarding the enhancements coming to Cinderella Castle.
“We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort.”
Work is set to begin on Cinderella Castle in the coming weeks and continue throughout the summer. The concept art released by Disney shows some incredible new looks for the icon of Magic Kingdom including gold accents all around and the royal blue turrets go up in number.
As of this time, there have been no changes to entertainment schedules.
UPDATE on February 20, 2020
Many guests have wondered and worried about how Cinderella Castle will look with the work being done. Magic Kingdom Vice President Jason Kirk has now said that things will not be as obtrusive as many guests have been expecting.
“While temporary construction equipment may be present while Cinderella Castle receives its royal makeover, it will remain uncovered and we will do our best to ensure guests are still able to capture special photos and memories in this iconic spot.”
Kirk also went on to say that the “work is expected to begin in the coming weeks and be complete before the end of summer.”
