World Of Disney And Disney-Owned Stores And Restaurants Opening At Disney Springs After Memorial Day Weekend

Disney Springs is set to begin its phased reopening one week from today, but more will be coming a few days later. A local union president has now revealed that World of Disney, along with Disney-owned shops and eateries, will reopen after Memorial Day Weekend.

Per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Clinton, president of UNITE HERE, Local 362 said on Wednesday that staff returning to work at Walt Disney World have a “mixed bag of emotions. They know that potential infection of the coronavirus is a concern, but they need money and have to pay their rent.

On May 20, many third-party vendors will open at Disney Springs and more will open on May 22. Now, it is known that many Disney-owned locations, such as World of Disney, will reopen after Memorial Day Weekend as THR reported.

The next phase will start seven days later when Disney retail shops, such as World of Disney Store, and Disney eateries reopen, the union president said. For that, an additional 59 custodians will report back to work on May 24, 2020.

Numerous safety procedures and new health specifications will be in places, and they will include:

  • Guests and Cast Members are required to wear face masks
  • Guests will have temperatures checked
  • Plexiglass dividers have been installed at all cash wraps/registers
  • Guests will swipe their own payment cards with no handling being done by Cast Members
  • Custodians are being retrained to pay attention to “high-touch areas”

Disney has not made an official announcement regarding this as of now. Due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, anything is subject to change.

As of this time, there is still no word on when the parks and resorts of Walt Disney World will reopen. Many of these safety procedures could end up being implemented in them as well, but Disney has not yet confirmed.
