LEGOLAND Florida is the first of the bigger-ish theme parks in Central Florida to set their reopening date, and it is coming up very soon.
The city of Winter Haven, Florida, has approved the reopening date of June 1, 2020, brought forth by LEGOLAND Florida Resort. General Manager Rex Jackson detailed the sanitation, social distancing, and other restrictions the park will have in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation have to approve the date to make it official.
LEGOLAND Florida has been closed since March 15, 2020.
The park is going to open with these restrictions in place:
- A maximum capacity of 50 percent or about 6,000 people
- Face masks/coverings will be highly recommended, but not required – Complimentary face masks will be provided for those who do not bring them. Park employees will be required to wear face masks and some will have on gloves, face shields, and other personal protection equipment
- Restaurants and live entertainment venues will also limit capacity
- Pirate Island and the original LEGOLAND Hotel will also have capacity limits
- Some attractions will not reopen on June 1 due to social distancing requirements – Those include some games, interactive play areas, and live meet-and-greets
- Social distancing measures will be in place in parking lots, attraction queues, and other events with signage and markers
- Restaurants will have no self-service buffets or salad bars or access to soda fountains and condiment stations – Table-service will be relied on for all food and beverage
- A forehead thermometer will read the temperatures of all guests before entry – Admission will not be allowed to guests with a temperature reading of 100.4 degrees or higher. Also, the entire party of the guest with a high temperature will also not be admitted.
Guests with a reading of a high temperature will receive a second reading with a different thermometer to confirm the result.
LEGOLAND is asking guests to book their visit online before arriving to help manage the capacity limit, but pre-arrival bookings are not required.
On Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated that theme parks can start making their reopening presentations on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Universal Orlando Resort is scheduled to start the presentations before the Florida Recovery Economic Task Force.
