The Russo Brothers are a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which intertwined so many different films. Now, they are teasing that there could be a new Disney Cinematic Universe starting with a live-action version of Hercules.
A live-action Hercules film has been in talks for a while now, and the charge is being led by Joe and Anthony Russo. As the directors of Avengers: Endgame, they already have experience with the world of Disney film-making.
While speaking with the Lights Camera Barstool podcast, they gave an update on Hercules as relayed by Joe.
“It is still in development, the script is about to come in a week. We’ve taken a lot of time and care with it. They want to see something really cool that they wanna get lost in it for a decade, so that’s our mission is to provide them with that experience.”
Disney has already brought forth live-action versions of Cinderella, Jungle Book, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and others.
Hercules could be a way of bringing forth years of entertainment that is connected in one way or another, as detailed by Anthony.
“I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel films. We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table.”
As of this time, there is no production start or release date for the live-action Hercules and other films in the universe, but it’s on the way.
