Walt Disney World Announces Fifth Park Coming in 2018 – Days of Disney’s Past

Walt Disney WorldWalt Disney World has made a major announcement and it makes retro fans of the lost attractions (such as Doctor Disney himself) almost too excited to even type. Walt Disney World has revealed that a fifth park will be coming to the Orlando area, and it is going to be filled with retro attractions, restaurants, and merchandise and it will be named Days of Disney’s Past.

Shanghai Disneyland is already set to open at the end of 2015, but Days of Disney’s Past is scheduled for an opening in the third quarter of 2018.

Disney said that ground will break early next year opposite Epcot.

The new park will combine “lost” Walt Disney World attractions from the four major theme parks as well as restaurants and merchandise locations.

It was revealed that current and up-to-date Disney merchandise will be sold in the park, but the focus of the merchandise locations will be on retro merchandise such as been showing up more in the Disney Parks lately. Attention was brought to the fact that the old “Walt Disney World” logo has been returned to merchandise recently.

There was not an entire listing of just what will be included in the new Walt Disney World park, but it was said that there will be “the attractions and restaurants from days gone by. Disney is not just about looking forward to the future, but remembering our past. Now, it’s time to give our newest guests – and those that have been around a long time – the chance to experience what made Walt Disney World great in the beginning.”

Some of the confirmed attractions and experiences will be:

  • Horizons – Epcot
  • World of Motion – Epcot
  • Kitchen Kabaret – Epcot
  • Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride – Magic Kingdom
  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea – Magic Kingdom
  • Skyway – Magic Kingdom
  • Snow White’s Scary Adventures – Magic Kingdom
  • Penny Arcade – Magic Kingdom
  • The Timekeeper – Magic Kingdom
  • Superstar Television – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Monster Sound Show – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Tarzan Rocks – Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Donald’s Dairy Barn – Disney Village Marketplace

Plans at this point are not complete and it has been said that there are no plans for a retro resort of some kind to come to Walt Disney World, but options aren’t thrown out just yet.

Some of the older parades could be recycled as well.

  1. Hahahaha. Very funny. Wish it were true.

  2. Shawna Majors says

Is this an April Fool’s joke? If so, it is BEYOND cruel!!!

  3. Alan Martin says

This one is funny but sooooo cruel! If only it were true…. if only.

  4. I knew it was an April Fool’s as soon as I saw that Adventurer’s Club was missing from the list. 😛

  5. Noah Agrios says

No original Journey Into Imagination with Dreamfinder and Figment??? I know this is an April fools joke but it sure would be nice wouldn’t it?

  6. Harry Delien says

    What about body wars?

  7. HAHAHA Too funny.

  8. Steve B. says

    You got me.

  9. Sherri Ayala says

So wish it was true! People love the idea!!!! Hate April’s Fool Day!!!

  10. ROTFLMAO!!!

  11. No fair! I actually believed it!
I hears rumors that Disney wanted to open a fifth park just for villains a while ago and thought maybe this was part of it 🙁

  12. It would have been our favorite park 🙁
    sad that it’s not true.

  13. so mean – not nice…..

  14. Umm…. your April Fools joke turned me into a broken 8-yr-old:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUq2SXU5zAQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

    • Heather, I have to say that I could not help but smile at this video. It is cute but sad all at the same time. Let me tell you that my intention was never to bring about major disappointment, and simply to play around with everyone.

Going to let you know though…that the reason it was so well written (thank you by the way) and believable is because it is something that I want to come true. For those that follow my page for even a short length of time, well, they realize and learn that I’m a huge fan of Disney gone by and retro Disney. I want all of those things back more than anything, and would give anything if a park like that happens in my lifetime.

I apologize for the sadness, but appreciate the video. 🙂

  15. I totally get the whole April fools thing but you should put something at the bottom instead of having to click on a new link. My friend actually believed you and is now telling everyone!! She is going to be majorly disappointed and angry when she finds out it was a joke. Props on the creativity but this was pretty cruel.

  16. that’s actually not funny and rude. ive gone to Disney every year my whole life and I told my nieces and nephews and other family members and we all got so exited. we talked about it for a long time. I seriously recommend you take this off now. its really not funny, just plain old rude

    • Sorry you found it rude, but it won’t be taken off the site. The date was April 1 and the link at the bottom shows it was an April Fool’s joke all in fun. I’ve been going to Disney my entire life as well and live right behind Magic Kingdom so I’d like this to be true as much as anyone.

  17. OMG I am crying that was sooooo funny

  18. Cam Holtoe says

Oh you cruel, Cruel, CRUEL BASTARDS!!!

  19. Alexis Salcedo says

I almost believed it. What a cruel joke!

  20. Cheryl Watters says

I was really excited till I realized it was a prank. After reading all the messages
above, I’m disappointed in Doctor Disney. While I get the April
fools prank, to take so many people’s hopes and dreams and flush them like that is
    disgraceful. You should be ashamed.
My only hope is that Disney executives see your post
and maybe think about an idea like this, what a way to make
more money for them and make so many devoted guests even happier.

  21. I just now ran into this post and I really enjoyed it! Like others, I felt a little like a child getting the greatest present in the world only to have it stolen away from me before I could play with it… But that’s just fine with me, this was was the best April fools day joke I have ever seen (even if I read it a little late).

  22. You are clearly not as much of a Disney lover as you claim to be if this is your idea of a joke. You completely ruined the Magic and are therefore being truly rude and disrespectful to those of us who are actually TRULY passionate about Disney, unlike you!

    • Well, considering I wrote it due to the fact that I really wish it would happen, yes, I am a Disney lover as much as I claim to be.

      • This is HILARIOUS! My sister just sent this to me thinking it was true and I totally bought it! Well done Doctor Disney! Despite the fact I’m reading the article month’s after April fools, I still had a great laugh! Oh, and I too am a Disney fanatic or, “enthusiast” as my husband calls me. 😉 thanks for keeping things light and funny!

  23. That was a good one. I was reading it, thinking to myself “there’s no way, I would have heard of this before” Regardless, that is a park I believe a lot of people would love to see actually built! Thanks

  24. How cool would it be if this were real?

  25. Dr Disney: They got rid of each of these attractions for a reason.

Everyone complaining about this article: Start paying attention to the release date of any article you read. If it was announced April 1st, take it with a grain o salt. Let this be your lesson.

Similar thing happened to me about the re-release of a new Ford Bronco in 2015 by Car and Driver. They even went so far as to photoshop complete front side and back views of it, which looked awesome. I will always check dates now.

Creatin articles like this helps present an idea to those who are able to make it happen.

  26. Perhaps some of you folks need to relax! Just a tad over-reaction to something, if real, wouldn’t have materialized until four years from the date written! Kudos to the “doctor” for being so thoughtful and creative in concocting such a novel idea! Surely, no one was booking flights and asking for time off for 2018! Good job doc for allowing me to imagine how cool a park like that would be!!

  27. I have to admit…you got me! Im sad that its not true, but in no way upset or offended. Great prank! :-). Maybe we should start a petition! You have great ideas for such a park. C’mon Disney, do it!!

  28. OMG! I was so excited I was reading it all out loud to my kids, who were also getting excited. I never even looked at the date of the article. As my daughter (20) was asking for my help with something, I clicked on the map link and then walked away. My son (15) was still by the computer and started laughing hysterically saying “that’s so mean!”. My daughter and I were wondering what he was talking about. I was thinking that maybe the shape of the park was in a villain shape or something. Then I walked back to the computer and saw it! Now we are all sad. But also laughing. I really hate April’s Fools Day, too. I am always too gullible. Thanks for the hype, the excitement and then the laugh. I should have paid more attention. 🙂

  29. John Collins says

Oh my God!! Lighten up people!! If your life is so Disneycentric, then you need professional help.
I was just as excited as the next person and looking forward to the retro WDW. I bought right into this. But its a joke. So now I move on. Well played Doctor, well played.

  30. joanne torchia says

Actually I think it is an awesome idea., even though it was a joke. Just think….All those older attractions that were “retired”. appealed to us when they were new. We have a whole new generation that missed these treasures. It would be great if we could bring them back in a nostalgic park and say to our children and grandchildren…”this is what Disney was like when I was your age.” Ahhhh, yes…if only! Good form, good form!! ( I was really amused by all of this)

  31. hopefully they will bring back mickey’s toon town too

  32. Must admit, you had me going…. What a great idea. I sat here all excited, thinking to myself that this is where the Sorcerer’s hat was going….

  33. Linda Tarcea says

This was just plain cruel. That it is still going around is wrong on so many levels. This was the only thing that had me thinking that we made a mistake in letting our annual passes expire. Guess we did not make a mistake after all.

  34. How in the world is this funny

  35. Kimberly says

    not funny

  36. Jennifer Oropeza says

Lame, I’m really curious as to the 5th park. But from recent trends I expected it to be grossly predictable and overly saturated with Frozen and billions of princesses. Too bad Disney has veered away from traditional values and Walt’s creativity.

  37. Awe geesh! I was just about to send this link to my daughter….then BAM! The realization of the day!!! Good one!!!

  38. Kitchen Kabaret used to be my all time favorite, when I was younger. This really sucks :/ I can’t say it wasn’t an intelligent move though. Good job Disney, you fooled me for 5 seconds. Then I just cried

  39. Elaine Milliren says

I think they should bring back, “America Sings”.

  40. pamela lockman says

omg i worked tarzan rocks one of my best attractions ever

  41. Unlike most people here in the comments, I actually have a sense of humor and common sense. Honestly, if Disney were to make a whole new park, it probably wouldn’t be ready by around the 2030’s because of how big the idea is.

  42. For God sake, just because it’s April Fools Day doesn’t mean that you can toy with our emotions TOO much! I lost my mind when it said Horizons! You Bastards!

  43. This is exactly what Disney World needs to focous on Disney’s past and past attractions that are no longer in use as a 5th Walt Disney World theme park as it’s been over 18 years since the last park opened Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened in 1998 but it’s not like Disney don’t have the land to build another park if not a few more.
