As the Disney Parks remain closed “until further notice” due to the coronavirus pandemic, many are wondering how things will be different at the end of it all. Bob Iger is working with many others to figure out a way to put guests at ease, and that could include taking the temperatures of all those who enter the parks.
In an interview with Barron’s, Iger discussed numerous topics, and that included not knowing when the parks may reopen. Still, once they do, he knows that guests will want an extra measure or two of security and that include checking temperatures before entering the parks.
“One of the things that we’re discussing already is that in order to return to some semblance of normal, people will have to feel comfortable that they’re safe. Some of that could come in the form ultimately of a vaccine, but in the absence of that it could come from basically, more scrutiny, more restrictions. Just as we now do bag checks for everybody that goes into our parks, it could be that at some point we add a component of that that takes people’s temperatures, as a for-instance.”
Iger went on to say that The Walt Disney Company is closely monitoring China and its efforts to return things back to normal after COVID-19. He did say that it may create some extra hardships such as taking a “bit longer for people to get in” the parks, but it would mean keeping everyone safer.
As of now, the idea of checking the temperatures of all guests entering the parks is merely being discussed by Disney, but nothing is set in stone.
