Ever since the theme parks of Walt Disney World reopened a month ago, the Disney Park Pass System has been in place. Guests must make reservations for any day they wish to enter the park as capacity has been reduced all around.
Many comments have been made on social media and in Facebook groups stating that lines are “still too long” and that “too many people are still in the parks. It’s time to look at just how bad things could possibly get on a day when the park passes for an entire day are totally gone.
The Disney Park Pass System is split into three categories of availability – Resort Guests, Annual Passholders, and Ticket-Only Guests. On Saturday, August 8, 2020, every single park pass reservation available was gone.
So, whatever the current (reduced) capacity of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is…was reached. That leads to some interesting conversation as to just how long the wait times/lines were for the attractions in the park on what had to be its most crowded day since reopening on July 15, 2020.
Easy WDW is a great site run by a guy named Josh, who pays a lot of attention to wait times in the parks. He doesn’t just look at them, but he analyzes them and does a ton of work that is really helpful for guests.
He broke down the wait times for every single attraction open right now at Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the course of the day. When looking at things for operating hours of 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., it truly isn’t bad at all.
The numbers you’re about to read are taking the wait times throughout the day (every 15 minutes), and averaging them out until close.
August 8, 2020 – Average attraction wait times at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Alien Swirling Saucers – 18 minutes
- Disney Society Orchestra – Multiple showtimes
- Disney Junior Dance Party – Multiple showtimes
- Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy – 13 minutes
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – 49 minutes
- Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run – 34 minutes
- MuppetVision 3D – 14 minutes
- Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster – 31 minutes
- Slinky Dog Dash – 40 minutes
- Star Tours – 17 minutes
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – 31 minutes
- Toy Story Mania! – 16 minutes
- Vacation Fun! – An Orignal Short – Multiple showtimes
- Walt Disney Presents – Multiple showtimes
That’s an average wait time of just 22 minutes overall throughout the entire day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Right now, there are a number of attractions closed at the park. The Frozen Sing-Along, Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, and Voyage of The Little Mermaid have yet to reopen. Star Wars Launch Bay is being used as a Relaxation Station, and has no meet-and-greets or exhibits for guests to frequent.
That means guests don’t have as many locations to go right now, but the average overall wait time still isn’t high. Despite all park pass availability being gone, a longest average wait time of 49 minutes during the middle of the summer…well, that’s not bad at all.
We don’t really know how long the Disney Park Pass System and reduced park capacity will be in place. This could go on for some time, but only time will tell.
Some may feel as if the Walt Disney World parks aren’t crowded at all, but others may still think they’re “too crowded.” Pictures only show so much, but true research details that even when current park capacity is reached, it’s really not that bad.
