Early this morning, Walt Disney World unveiled their plans for the 50th anniversary celebration beginning later this year. Now, we know that the special lighting shown on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is not going to be only a temporary thing.
Back in November, we reported that Spaceship Earth would soon receive an “enhanced lighting package.” We all figured it was for the 50th anniversary celebration, but now, it appears as if it may be for much longer.
User @danlb_2000 of the WDWMagic forums noticed a permit which is being carried out by Pro Sound and Video. It is for the “install of lighting equipment and Low Voltage Terminations” at EPCOT, but most notably…for Spaceship Earth.
Pro Sound and Video has worked with Disney before, and some of their work is in Pandora – The World of Avatar.
Some of the work is already being done with new speakers and subwoofers previously put in place.
Disney has now confirmed that the the new lighting will be in place for good. Disney stated that “this permanent new lighting will continue beyond ‘The World’s Most Magical Celebration’ as a defining feature of the park.”
