‘National Treasure’ TV Series Receives Greenlight For Disney+

National Treasure is one of those movie franchises that you can’t help but be drawn to, and now, we are getting even more. A TV series devoted to the treasure-hunting films has been given the green light to land on Disney+.

Disney+ has a 10-episode order in for the series with original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley on board. The series will be directed by Mira Nair.

The National Treasure series will explore identity, community and patriotism through the eyes of Jess Morales, a 20-year-old DREAMer who sets off on an adventure to recover lost treasure and uncover her mysterious family history.

As of this time, there is no casting news for the series. Bruckheimer does plan on keeping the same idea and feel of the movies, but with a much younger cast. There is no word on if Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, or any others from the movies will be involved with the TV series.

As we previously reported earlier this year, “National Treasure 3” is in the works. Jon Turteltaub, the director of the first two films, is working with writer Chris Bremner on the third movie. It would see the return of Cage, Bartha, Kruger, Armando Riesco, Jon Voight, and Harvey Keitel.
